Good Shepherd Lutheran Church wanted to create a brighter and more dynamic experience for their in-person and digital service parishio-ners. The dated altar fixtures were replaced with motorized spot lights that have the ability to be digitally aimed. This eliminated the need for manual re-aiming with tall ladders between seasons and services. New linear fixtures, covertly concealed, wash the back wall adding dimension and highlighting the stone’s textural beauty. Throughout the Congregation, new track spots increase lighting levels to a comfort-able reading level. This allows the existing decorative pendants be at a softer, less glary light level since they aren’t the main source of illu-mination. The cohesive design is completed down to the details with concealed linear strips updated and integrated into the Altar, Lectern, and Cross, balancing the lighting effect and bringing the sculptural carvings to life. Controlling the original lights was also a cumbersome issue. Designers proposed a wireless, app based system, giving the Pastor control through an iPad and eliminating the need for an expen-sive manual overhaul. In addition to the digital aiming of the Altar spot lights, this system also gave the Pastor the ability to change the lighting effects at the push of a button.
